27th Jäger Battalion
The 27th Jäger Battalion was a unit of Finnish volunteers trained in Germany during the First World War, when Finland was still a grand duchy of the Russian Empire. Some 1,900 young men secretly left Finland from 1915 to train as light infantry, and the battalion served on the Eastern Front in 1916. Its members returned in 1918 to lead the White forces in the Finnish Civil War and formed the officer core of the new Finnish army.
