Abdal Khan

17th century · 17th century

Abdal Khan was the Kurdish emir of Bitlis in the mid-17th century, ruling a hereditary principality under Ottoman overlordship. The traveller Evliya Çelebi described his rich court in 1655, shortly before an Ottoman army under Melek Ahmed Pasha attacked him for his defiance. His family kept the emirate until the Ottoman centralisation of the 19th century.
