Lake Van
Lake Van is the largest lake in Turkey, a salty soda lake on the high plateau of eastern Anatolia. Its shores were the centre of the Iron Age kingdom of Urartu, whose capital Tushpa stood at Van, and later of the Armenian kingdom of Vaspurakan. In the medieval period Kurdish and Turkmen dynasties such as the Shah-Armens and the Qara Qoyunlu held its towns.
