Ayanis

7th century BCE · 7th century BCE

Ayanis is the site of a Urartian fortress on the eastern shore of Lake Van in eastern Turkey, founded by Rusa II in the seventh century BCE and known in antiquity as Rusahinili Eiduru-kai. Excavations since 1989 have uncovered a temple of the god Haldi with inlaid stone walls, storerooms of large jars and many inscriptions. The fortress was destroyed by fire later in the seventh century.
