Abdalonymus

4th century BCE · 4th century BCE

Abdalonymus was king of Sidon, installed by Alexander the Great in 332 BCE. Ancient writers say he was a poor gardener of royal descent chosen in place of the deposed king Straton. The Alexander Sarcophagus, found at Sidon and now in Istanbul, is thought to have been made for him, and he ruled as a Macedonian client king.
