Aboud Jumbe
Aboud Jumbe was a Zanzibari politician who became president of Zanzibar and first vice-president of Tanzania after the assassination of Abeid Karume in 1972. He took the Afro-Shirazi Party into the merger with TANU that created Chama Cha Mapinduzi in 1977 and introduced a separate Zanzibar constitution in 1979. He was forced to resign in 1984 amid accusations that he sought greater autonomy for the islands.
