Abu Hafs Umar I
Abu Hafs Umar I was the Hafsid sultan of Tunis from 1284 to 1295, a son of Abu Zakariya Yahya I. He took power after overthrowing the usurper Ibn Abi Umara, but his nephew Abu Zakariya set up a rival Hafsid state at Béjaïa in 1285 that refused to recognise him. His reign saw the loss of Djerba to the Aragonese admiral Roger of Lauria.
