Hafsid dynasty
The Hafsid dynasty ruled Ifriqiya, centred on Tunis, from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century. It began with Almohad governors of the region who later declared independence. Its emergence was part of the fragmentation of the Almohad Caliphate, and it continued aspects of Almohad tradition after the caliphate's fall.
