Ifriqiya

Ifriqiya was the medieval Arabic name for the region roughly corresponding to present-day Tunisia, eastern Algeria and western Libya. The Fatimid Caliphate was founded there in the early tenth century before moving to Egypt. It was later ruled by the Almohads, whose governors established the independent Hafsid dynasty.
