Ifni War

1957–1958 · 20th century

The Ifni War was a conflict of 1957-1958 in which Moroccan irregulars of the Army of Liberation attacked Spanish West Africa, including Ifni and Spanish Sahara. The Spanish were confined to the town of Sidi Ifni until a Franco-Spanish offensive in 1958 restored control in the Sahara. Spain ceded the Tarfaya strip to Morocco in 1958 and Ifni itself in 1969.
