Abu'l-Hayja Abdallah ibn Hamdan
Abu'l-Hayja Abdallah ibn Hamdan was an Arab commander of the Banu Taghlib who laid the foundations of the Hamdanid dynasty's power. Appointed governor of Mosul by the Abbasid caliph in 905, he held the post for much of the following years and became a leading figure at the court in Baghdad. He was killed in 929 in a failed palace coup against the caliph al-Muqtadir, and his sons Nasir al-Dawla and Sayf al-Dawla founded the Hamdanid emirates.
