Adoptionism
Adoptionism is the Christian doctrine that Jesus, in his human nature, was the adopted rather than the natural Son of God. In late eighth-century Spain it was taught by Archbishop Elipandus of Toledo and Bishop Felix of Urgell, and attacked by Beatus of Liébana and Alcuin. It was condemned by the councils of Regensburg in 792 and Frankfurt in 794, and the controversy helped separate the Asturian church from Toledo under Muslim rule.
