Aeclanum
Aeclanum was the main town of the Hirpini in the southern Apennines, near modern Mirabella Eclano in Campania. Sulla captured and sacked it in 89 BCE during the Social War, after which it became a Roman municipium on the Via Appia. Its 5th-century bishop, Julian of Eclanum, was a leading opponent of Augustine.
