Campania
Campania is a region of southern Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea, with Naples as its capital. Its fertile volcanic plain drew Greek colonists, Etruscans and Samnites, and Rome won control of it in the 4th century BCE. In the early Middle Ages it was divided among the Lombard principalities of Benevento, Capua and Salerno and the coastal duchies, until the Normans united it in the 12th century.
