Battle of Lake Regillus

c. 496 BCE · 5th century BCE

The Battle of Lake Regillus was a legendary victory of the early Roman Republic over the Latin League, traditionally dated around 496 BCE, near Tusculum in the Alban Hills. The Latins were said to be led by Octavius Mamilius of Tusculum on behalf of the exiled Tarquinius Superbus, and Roman legend credited the gods Castor and Pollux with aiding Rome. It was followed by the Treaty of Spurius Cassius in 493 BCE.
