Affligem Abbey
Affligem Abbey is a Benedictine monastery in Flemish Brabant, Belgium, founded around 1062 by a group of repentant knights and richly endowed by the counts of Louvain, later dukes of Brabant. It became one of the most powerful abbeys of the duchy and a centre of monastic reform, and its abbot ranked first among the prelates in the Estates of Brabant. Suppressed in 1796, it was refounded in the nineteenth century.
