Person
al-Afdal Shahanshah
Al-Afdal Shahanshah was a powerful vizier of the Fatimid Caliphate in the late eleventh and early twelfth centuries. In the succession crisis of 1094 he bypassed the designated heir Nizar in favour of al-Musta'li. This split the Ismaili community permanently into rival branches and damaged the Fatimid da'wa's universal authority.
