Al-Ala ibn Mughith

d. 763 · 8th century

Al-Ala ibn Mughith was an Arab leader in al-Andalus who in 763 raised the black banner of the Abbasid caliph al-Mansur against the Umayyad emir Abd al-Rahman I, gathering support in the south-west of the peninsula. Abd al-Rahman besieged and defeated him near Carmona and killed him, and according to the chroniclers sent his preserved head eastwards as a warning to the caliph.
