Al Mahatta Fort

1932 · 20th century · Also known as Al Mahatta Museum

Al Mahatta Fort is a fortified rest house built in Sharjah in 1932 by Imperial Airways for passengers on its air route between Britain and India. The airfield beside it was the first in the Trucial States and was used by civil and military aircraft for decades. The building was restored in 2000 as the Al Mahatta Museum, devoted to the history of aviation in the region.
