Al Maktoum
The Al Maktoum are the ruling family of Dubai, descended from Maktoum bin Butti, who led the Al Bu Falasah to Dubai Creek in 1833. Under rulers such as Rashid bin Saeed and his sons they turned Dubai from a pearling and trading town into a global commercial hub. The ruler of Dubai traditionally serves as vice-president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.
