Dubai Creek
Dubai Creek is a saltwater inlet that divides Dubai into Deira and Bur Dubai. The Al Bu Falasah settled on its banks in 1833, and its sheltered harbour made Dubai a centre of pearling and trade with Iran and India. Its dredging in 1959–1961 under Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed allowed larger ships to enter and launched Dubai's growth as a port.
