Ras al-Khaimah is a port city on the northern coast of the United Arab Emirates and capital of the emirate of the same name. It became the main base of the Al Qasimi in the 18th century and was attacked by British expeditions in 1809 and 1819. The emirate joined the United Arab Emirates in February 1972, two months after its foundation.
