Alamgir II

1699–1759 · 18th century

Alamgir II was Mughal emperor from 1754 to 1759, a son of Jahandar Shah placed on the throne by the vizier Ghazi-ud-din Khan Imad-ul-Mulk. He held little real power, as Ahmad Shah Durrani sacked Delhi in 1757 and the Marathas and the vizier competed for control. Fearing that the emperor was conspiring against him, Imad-ul-Mulk had him murdered in 1759.
