Person
Alauddin al-Kahar
Alauddin al-Kahar was sultan of Aceh from about 1537 to 1571 and made it a regional power. He sought military aid from the Ottoman Empire, which sent gunners and cannon in the 1560s, and repeatedly attacked Portuguese Malacca as well as Johor and the Batak lands. His reign secured Aceh's place in the pepper trade and its links with the Muslim powers of the Red Sea.
