Person
Alberto Pitentino
Alberto Pitentino was a 12th-century engineer of Mantua who, around 1190, regulated the Mincio river with dams and embankments. His works created the four lakes that surrounded the city and protected it for centuries, and also powered mills and supported navigation. The three lakes that survive still frame Mantua today.
