c. 1200–c. 1269 · 13th century · Also known as Sordello da Goito, Sordel

Sordello da Goito was an Italian troubadour from near Mantua who wrote in Occitan. After an affair with Cunizza da Romano, sister of Ezzelino III, he left Italy for Provence and later served Charles of Anjou, following him to southern Italy. His most famous poem is a lament for the lord Blacatz, and Dante made him a guide in the Purgatorio.
