Person
Alboin
Alboin was king of the Lombards from about 560 and led them out of Pannonia into Italy in 568, soon after the Gothic Wars had exhausted the peninsula. He conquered much of northern Italy, took Pavia after a long siege and set up the first Lombard duchy at Cividale under his nephew Gisulf. He was murdered at Verona in 572 in a plot involving his wife Rosamund.
