Albigeois

The Albigeois is a historical region of southern France around Albi, on the Tarn, corresponding largely to the modern Tarn department. Its viscounts, the Trencavels, held it under the counts of Toulouse. Cathars were so numerous in the region that they were called Albigensians, and the crusade launched against them in 1209 took its name from Albi.
