Béziers

Béziers is a city on the River Orb in the Hérault department of Languedoc, southern France. A pre-Roman settlement that became the Roman colony of Baeterrae, it was later held by the Trencavel viscounts. On 22 July 1209, at the start of the Albigensian Crusade, the crusaders stormed it and massacred much of its population, including those who had taken refuge in its churches.
