first published September 1905 · 20th century · Also known as আমার সোনার বাংলা

"Amar Sonar Bangla" ("My Golden Bengal") is an ode to Mother Bengal written by the Bengali poet Rabindranath Tagore. The exact year it was composed is not known, because the original manuscript was never found. Its melody is derived from "Ami Kothay Pabo Tare", a song of the Baul singer Gagan Harkara, set to the rhythm cycle Dadra tala. It is linked with the first Partition of Bengal.
