Amar Singh Thapa (1751–1816) was a Gorkhali general who led Nepal's westward expansion. He commanded in Kumaon and Garhwal and besieged the fortress of Kangra from 1806 until he was forced back by the Sikhs of Ranjit Singh. In the Anglo-Nepalese War he held the western front against David Ochterlony but surrendered at Malaun in 1815, and he opposed the peace that followed.
