Kumaon
Kumaon is the eastern of the two divisions of Uttarakhand in the central Himalaya of India, with Nainital and Almora as its main towns. It was ruled by the Katyuri kings and then for centuries by the Chand dynasty from Champawat and Almora. The Gorkhas conquered it in 1790, and after the Anglo-Nepalese War it passed to the British in 1815.
