14th century · 14th century

Kumara Kampana was a prince and general of the Vijayanagara Empire, a son of Bukka Raya I. In the 1360s he conquered the Sambuvaraya kingdom around Kanchipuram, and around 1370–1378 he destroyed the Madurai Sultanate, bringing the Tamil country under Vijayanagara. His wife Gangadevi celebrated these campaigns in the Sanskrit poem Madhura Vijayam.
