Harihara I

r. c. 1336–1356 · 14th century

Harihara I was the founder, with his brother Bukka I, of the Vijayanagara Empire and its first ruling house, the Sangama dynasty. Having probably served the Kampili or Hoysala rulers, the brothers established their kingdom on the Tungabhadra around 1336 as Delhi Sultanate authority in the south collapsed, and Harihara extended his rule over much of the former Hoysala lands.
