Muhammad bin Tughluq

c. 1290–1351 · 14th century · Also known as Ulugh Khan

Muhammad bin Tughluq was sultan of Delhi from 1325 to 1351. As the prince Ulugh Khan he captured Warangal in 1323, ending the Kakatiya dynasty. His reign brought the Delhi Sultanate to its greatest extent, but schemes such as moving the capital to Daulatabad and a token copper currency failed, and revolts founded independent states in Madurai, Bengal and the Deccan.
