Madurai Sultanate

1335–1378 · 14th century · Also known as Sultanate of Madurai, Ma'bar Sultanate

The Madurai Sultanate was a Muslim kingdom in the southern Tamil country, founded in 1335 when the governor Jalal-ud-din Ahsan Khan rebelled against the Delhi Sultanate. Its sultans killed the Hoysala king Veera Ballala III near Tiruchirappalli in 1343. Weakened by internal strife, it was conquered by Kumara Kampana of Vijayanagara in 1378.
