Amiternum

Amiternum was an ancient Sabine town in the upper Aterno valley of central Italy, near modern L'Aquila. It came under Roman control early in the 3rd century BCE and grew into a prosperous Roman town with a theatre and an amphitheatre, whose remains survive. The historian Sallust was born there.
