Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan

1829–1832 · 19th century

Annals and Antiquities of Rajasthan is a history of the Rajput states by James Tod, published in two volumes in London in 1829 and 1832. Drawing on bardic chronicles, inscriptions and his years as political agent in western Rajputana, Tod gave pride of place to Mewar and portrayed the Rajputs as a chivalric, feudal society. The book shaped British and Indian views of Rajput history for a century, though historians now treat its romanticism with caution.
