Annals of the Joseon Dynasty

1413–1865 · 15th century · Also known as Joseon Wangjo Sillok

The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty (Joseon Wangjo Sillok) are the official chronicles of the reigns of Joseon kings from Taejo to Cheoljong, covering 1392 to 1863 in 1,893 volumes. Each reign's annals were compiled after the king's death from the daily notes of court historians, which kings were not allowed to read. Copies were stored in separate mountain archives for safety, and the annals were inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register in 1997.
