Antemoro

Also known as Antaimoro

The Antemoro (Antaimoro) are a Malagasy people of south-eastern Madagascar, around the Matitana river and Vohipeno. Their ruling clans, who claim descent from Muslim immigrants, established a kingdom around 1500, and their scribes preserved the sorabe, Malagasy texts written in Arabic script. Antemoro diviners were sought after at other Malagasy courts, and the people are known today for Antemoro paper.
