Antigua Guatemala
Antigua Guatemala is a city in the central highlands of Guatemala, founded in 1543 as Santiago de los Caballeros after the destruction of the previous capital. For over two centuries it was the capital of the Captaincy General of Guatemala, rich in churches and convents. After the earthquakes of 1773 the capital moved to Guatemala City; the ruined Baroque city is a World Heritage Site.
