Baroque

Baroque is the style of art, architecture and music that flourished in Europe from about 1600 to the mid-18th century. Born in Rome and spread by the Church of the Counter-Reformation and by royal courts, it favoured movement, drama and rich ornament. In southern Germany and Austria it shaped churches, abbeys and palaces, and in music it produced Monteverdi, Bach and Handel.
