Ardys of Lydia

7th century BCE · 7th century BCE

Ardys was king of Lydia in the mid-7th century BCE, the son and successor of Gyges of the Mermnad dynasty. Early in his reign the Cimmerians sacked Sardis except for its citadel, and he sent an embassy to the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal. Herodotus says he reigned 49 years, took Priene and attacked Miletus, and was succeeded by his son Sadyattes.
