Mermnad dynasty

c. 680–547 BCE · 7th century BCE · Also known as Mermnads

The Mermnad dynasty ruled the Kingdom of Lydia from Sardis from about 680 BCE until the Persian conquest around 547 BCE. Its kings, Gyges, Ardys, Sadyattes, Alyattes and Croesus, subdued most of the Greek cities of Ionia, fought the Cimmerians and the Medes, and issued the first coins. Croesus, the last of them, was defeated by Cyrus the Great.
