Person
Merkurios
Merkurios was a king of Makuria in Nubia around the end of the 7th and the beginning of the 8th century; an inscription implies that his reign began in 697. His rule is linked with the union of Nobadia and Makuria and with the Nubian church's adherence to the Coptic patriarchate of Alexandria. The History of the Patriarchs of Alexandria calls him a 'New Constantine'.
