Armaztsikhe

Also known as Armazi fortress

Armaztsikhe is the ruined acropolis of ancient Iberia on the heights of Bagineti, above the Mtkvari river opposite Mtskheta in Georgia. Excavations since the 1930s have revealed fortification walls, a palace complex, baths and rich burials of the Hellenistic and Roman periods. Georgian chronicles describe it as the seat of the early kings and of the idol of the god Armazi.
