Awjila
Awjila is an oasis town in the Libyan Desert of eastern Libya, some 250 km inland from the Gulf of Sirte. Herodotus mentions it as Augila, where the Nasamones went each summer to harvest dates. It long served as a station on caravan routes between Egypt and the Fezzan, and its 12th-century Atiq mosque is among the oldest in the Sahara.
