Baba Vida

Also known as Baba Vida fortress

Baba Vida is a medieval fortress on the bank of the Danube at Vidin in north-western Bulgaria, built mainly between the 10th and 14th centuries on the site of the Roman town of Bononia. It served as the residence of Ivan Sratsimir, ruler of the Tsardom of Vidin, and was later strengthened by the Ottomans, who used it as an arsenal and prison. It is one of the best-preserved medieval castles in Bulgaria.
