Ivan Sratsimir

c. 1324–1397 · 14th century

Ivan Sratsimir was tsar of Bulgaria at Vidin from 1356 to 1396. The eldest son of Tsar Ivan Alexander, he was passed over as heir in favour of his half-brother Ivan Shishman and given the north-western region around Vidin, where he ruled as a separate and rival tsar. He became an Ottoman vassal, but after joining the crusade that ended at Nicopolis in 1396 he was deposed, and Vidin was the last Bulgarian state to fall.
