Bacolod
Bacolod is a city on the north-western coast of Negros Island in the Philippines, the capital of Negros Occidental province. It grew in the 19th century as a centre of the island's sugar industry, dominated by large planter families. In November 1898 revolutionaries led by Aniceto Lacson and Juan Araneta took control of the town, which became the seat of the short-lived Republic of Negros.
